This sterling silver proof medal was issued in 1976 to commemorate the inauguration of the first undersea communication cable between Japan and China. Released by the International Society of Postmasters and minted by The Franklin Mint, it comes with the official First Day Cover featuring a matching commemorative stamp.

Both the medal and the stamp were issued and postmarked on October 25, 1976, in Tomioka, Japan.
