Centenary of the Rio de Janeiro - São Paulo Railroad – 1977 Sterling Silver Medal

This Medallic First Day Cover was issued by the International Society of Postmasters to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the railway connection between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
It features a beautiful sterling silver proof medal portraying Emperor Dom Pedro II of Brazil standing next to his private railway carriage, honoring his role in modernizing the country through the development of railways.

The accompanying stamp is an official 1977 issue from Brazil, showing one of the early trains emerging from a tunnel between São Paulo and Rio. It bears clear postmarks from both Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and São Paulo (SP) dated July 8, 1977 — the exact day of the centenary.

The medal was sculpted by Dominic Angelini and struck by The Franklin Mint, known for their exceptional craftsmanship.
